NYC Office: (212) 298-5585
Hello!
Is the office of Senate Leader Stewart-Cousins?
My name is ____ and I am calling to ask that you to support Senate Bill 1977, also known as the SWEAT bill, today. Since the previous Governor vetoed the bill, wage theft in New York is out of control. Workers in New York lose an estimated $1 billion in stolen wages every year. This includes stolen tips, withheld wages, denied breaks, uncompensated overtime, and sub-minimum wages. Thousands of New York’s working families have been demanding a law like SWEAT for YEARS. States like Maryland and Wisconsin already have similar protections in the books, and Washington just passed a lien law last month. Your public support of SWEAT will help all working people in NYS and will help ensure SWEAT’s passage. Can we count on you?

Dear Senate Leader Stewart-Cousins,
My name is ____ and I am a resident of ___. I am writing to ask that you publicly support Senate Bill 1977, also known as the Securing Wages Earned Against Theft (SWEAT) bill.
SWEAT is a monumental bill that has been designed to help workers combat rampant wage theft committed by employers, every day. Workers in New York lose an estimated $1 billion in stolen wages every year. This takes the form of stolen tips, withheld wages, denials of legally mandated breaks, sub-minimum wages, uncompensated overtime, and more. SWEAT would allow current and former employees to stop employers from hiding assets before a court judgment on a wage theft allegation is reached.
The 112-member strong SWEAT coalition and the thousands of workers whom they organize have been pushing for a legislative solution like SWEAT. States like Maryland, Wisconsin and Washington have already passed protections like this one. We can’t leave working families in New York behind.
Since the previous Governor vetoed the bill, wage theft in New York is out of control. Your public support of SWEAT will help all working people in NYS and will help ensure SWEAT’s passage. Can we count on you?
Thank you for supporting NY workers!
